  98.        This section lists the subsystems (and their sizes) of the
  99.        IRIS InSight software.

  101.        You can use the software installation instructions in the
  102.        _P_e_r_s_o_n_a_l _S_y_s_t_e_m _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e to install this
  103.        product.  If you are installing this software for the first
  104.        time, the default subsystems are installed if you click the
  105.        _I_n_s_t_a_l_l _A_u_t_o_m_a_t_i_c_a_l_l_y button.  To install a different set of
  106.        subsystems, click the _C_u_s_t_o_m_i_z_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n button and make
  107.        your new selections.  Then click the _S_t_a_r_t button to launch
  108.        the installation.

  149.        All of the subsystems for IRIS InSight can be installed
  150.        using IRIX.  You do not need to use the miniroot. Refer to
  151.        the _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_o_r'_s _G_u_i_d_e or the
  152.        installation instructions in the _P_e_r_s_o_n_a_l _S_y_s_t_e_m

  156.        2.4  _P_r_e_r_e_q_u_i_s_i_t_e_s

  158.        Your workstation must be running release 4D1-6.2 in order to
  159.        use release 3.0.1 of IRIS InSight.
  160.  
  161.        If you want to install the IRIS InSight viewer
  162.        (_i_n_s_i_g_h_t._s_w._c_l_i_e_n_t) then you must also install _x__e_o_e._s_w._e_o_e,
  163.        _m_o_t_i_f__e_o_e._s_w._e_o_e, _e_o_e._s_w._i_r_i_x__l_i_b, _d_m_e_d_i_a__e_o_e._s_w._l_i_b,
  164.        _c_o_m_p_i_l_e_r__e_o_e._s_w._l_i_b, _c++__e_o_e._s_w._l_i_b, and _V_i_e_w_K_i_t__e_o_e._s_w._b_a_s_e
  165.        for the viewer to function properly.  If you want to view
  166.        any of the inline Inventor media objects then you must
  167.        install _i_n_v_e_n_t_o_r__e_o_e._s_w._i_n_v_e_n_t_o_r.  If you want to view any
  168.        of the inline movie objects then you must install
  169.        _e_o_e._s_w._g_f_x__l_i_b. If you want to install the online help
  170.        (_i_n_s_i_g_h_t._b_o_o_k_s._h_e_l_p) for the IRIS InSight viewer then you
  171.        must install _i_n_s_i_g_h_t._s_w._s_g_i_h_e_l_p along with the viewer.

  173.        If you wish to install the SGIHelp/XHELP Developer's kit
  174.        then you will need to install _i_n_s_t__d_e_v._s_w._b_a_s_e, and
  175.        _d_e_v._s_w._m_a_k_e which are part of IDO in order to build instable
  176.        images.  If you simply want to build the samples without
  177.        building images then you don't need these subsystems.

  200.        2.5  _C_o_m_p_a_t_i_b_i_l_i_t_y

  202.        The IRIS InSight 2.X viewers are incompatible with the IRIS
  203.        InSight 1.0 books that installed with IRIX 4.0.1.  You will
  204.        not be able to install the older 1.0 books after a 2.X
  205.        viewer is installed, due to incompatibility rules during
  206.        installation.  However, we have no means of preventing users
  207.        from mounting 1.0 books onto a 2.X viewer's filesystem.
  208.  
  209.        It is also possible to mount and access the 6.2 books from a
  210.        5.3 system, however the help for applications may not work
  211.        due to changes in the applications and documentation between
  212.        the two operating systems.  The same is also true for 5.3
  213.        help books being accessed from 6.2 applications.

  215.        The new Japanese books can not be viewed using the standard
  216.        IRIX 6.2 InSight Viewer and must be viewed using this 3.0.1
  217.        viewer.  The new viewer can view the older IRIX 5.3 and IRIX
  218.        6.2 books.

  220.        2.6  _O_t_h_e_r__I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__I_n_f_o_r_m_a_t_i_o_n

  222.        You can install IRIS InSight in five configurations:
  223.  
  224.           +o Local client and server
  225.  
  226.           +o Client with remote server
  227.  
  228.           +o Client with server on CD-ROM
  229.  
  230.           +o Creating an InSight document server
  231.  
  232.           +o Client accessing books from multiple locations
  233.  
  234.        Important: Please read this section carefully. It details
  235.                   installation information specific to the IRIS
  236.                   InSight product.
  237.  
  238.        2.6.1  _L_o_c_a_l__C_l_i_e_n_t__a_n_d__S_e_r_v_e_r  The default installation
  239.        configuration is to install the IRIS InSight Viewer and
  240.        Document Library on a single system.  The total size of the
  241.        viewer, glossary, and help is a little more than 11 Mb.
  242.        Installing additional books requires additional disk space.
  243.        If you have the disk space, this is the ideal configuration
  244.        since it gives the viewer fastest access to the book data.
  245.        See the Release Notes for products that contain books to
  246.        find out the disk space requirements for each book.

  248.        2.6.2  _C_l_i_e_n_t__w_i_t_h__R_e_m_o_t_e__S_e_r_v_e_r  If several machines plan
  249.        on sharing all the books, helpmap files, and man pages via
  250.        NFS mounts then this is the configuration of choice.  To

  302.        Note:  If you have a version of the IRIS InSight Document
  303.               Library installed on your disk but want to mount the
  304.               books from the CD-ROM, you must remove all the
  305.               current IRIS InSight books (with the IRIX command
  306.               _v_e_r_s_i_o_n_s _r_e_m_o_v_e) from your system and remove any
  307.               remaining files in /_u_s_r/_s_h_a_r_e/_I_n_s_i_g_h_t/_l_i_b_r_a_r_y before
  308.               creating the symbolic link described in step 2.

  310.        If you wish to use the IRIS InSight Viewer and Document
  311.        Library from the CD-ROM and access the information from a
  312.        local or remote system, follow these steps:

  315.              InSight CD into the CD-ROM drive.

  417.        2.6.4  _C_r_e_a_t_i_n_g__a_n__I_n_S_i_g_h_t__D_o_c_u_m_e_n_t__S_e_r_v_e_r

  419.        For sites with numerous IRIS machines running multiple
  420.        versions of the operating system, it may be advantageous to
  421.        devote one machine to being an InSight Document Server.
  422.        This server would contain all the books for the various OS
  423.        releases, and the clients would simply NFS mount the
  424.        appropriate books and help from that server.
  425.  
  426.        To create a document server, start by installing the version
  427.        of InSight and all the books for the oldest OS version that
  428.        any client machine will want to mount.  For instance, if the
  429.        server will contain the 4.0.5, 5.2, and 5.3 books, then
  430.        install the 4.0.5 version of InSight and the 4.0.5 books
  431.        first.
  432.  
  433.        For 4.0.5 the books are installed in /_u_s_r/_I_n_s_i_g_h_t/_l_i_b_r_a_r_y.
  434.        After they are installed move the "library" directory to
  435.        "4.0.5library" so that the next install doesn't remove the
  436.        books.  Later on after you have installed the other OS
  437.        bookshelves you may want to move the "4.0.5library"
  438.        directory to the location that the other library directories
  439.        will be under /_u_s_r/_s_h_a_r_e/_I_n_s_i_g_h_t.
